Why it’s a sweet spot
United's Excursionist Perk adds a free award flight between two award segments when specific routing rules are met. A round-trip US–Europe with a London→Rome middle leg, for instance, adds that extra ticket at zero cost. On routes where that middle flight would have been €100–€200 in cash, the Excursionist flight pushes the overall redemption value well past the base rate.
Known caveats
- -The Excursionist leg must start and end in a region different from your origin — and in the same region as another award segment.
- -Works only on saver-class partner awards; dynamic Polaris pricing doesn't trigger the perk.
- -One Excursionist per booking. Multiple perks require multiple round-trip itineraries.
